Back From California and Itching to play some Cards

Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there
John Wooden

Well Hi folks,
Finally back from California and let me tell you I didn't miss the cold that is for sure... I stepped off the plane and thought oh jeez it is minus 21 C and I am not liking it lol

Well it was a great week for a vacation with the kids who enjoyed Disneyland. I got to have fun and relax a little bit and not worry about work... I did have some tense moments but they will be talked about and laughed at for years to come I am sure... like losing the plane tickets...then getting through security only to find out the plane was delayed so decided to go out for a smoke...passed by security , had a smoke and tried to go through security only to find out I had the wrong boarding pass...had to flag down a lapd cop to go to my gate , find my wife and get the pass...lol

then just when I thought it could not get any worse , we start to board the plane when of all people ....Richard Simmons the aerobic guru arrives and is on the same flight... here he is in spandex shorts and tank top carrying a pillow... OMG he did not shut up the entire flight...lol

Anyway I am back and itching to get some online poker in..I have to work the next couple of days but have decided to give pokerstars a try... I am fed up with the suck outs on Full tilt as of late and figure I will give them a rest for a bit...

I did get my poker fix on the plane as on the little tv's under sports they had the world poker tour episodes... so even though I had already seen then it was good to get some type of poker in lol

On a interesting note is anyone following the Clonie Gowan lawsuit against Full tilt...Sounds like she might take it to court so FT will have to reveal their finances and ownership structure... which would be nice as poker player from all over the world can see who is truly behind FT... me thinks we would all be surprised not only by ownership but who is all involved... Gowan is reported by Bluff magazine to have turned down a 250 thousand dollar pay out from FT...

Anyway gotta fly but it is great to be back home even if it is colder than hell here..

Family Day In Canada

Flaming enthusiasm, backed up by horse sense and persistence, is the quality that most frequently makes for success.
Dale Carnegie

Well I had the day off today and it gave me the chance to do a few things..Have some quality time with the kids in the morning. Get some laundry done in the early afternoon , Then I proceeded to ruin my wife's stew she was cooking all day by adding some spices to well spice it up.. My daughter had a taste and immediately spit in out in the garbage saying it tasted like mold ..lol My wife was giving her the what for when she too had a taste.. I don't know who spit theirs out faster... I think it taste good...lol So I guess I have a whole pot of stew for me...anybody want some...lol

So after supper the dishes were done and I sat down for my first official TUCKFARD tourney...It was fun although I did make the money I had a blast and met some cool people..

Well tomorrow is my last shift before heading out to california with the kids to enjoy disneyland. Hopefully I can get all my paperwork done as I don't want to come back to it.

Ok gotta fly as I still have to give the kidlets a bath and finish the $5 dollar SNG I am in. Well that was easy my PP jacks vs AK and he sucks out on the river... I swear FT does that way too many times for my liking.

Have a Good one!

Love is in the Cards

It's choice--not chance--that determines your destiny.” ~Jean Nidetch~

Yes love is in the cards today...I finally got on track and made the final table in a 90 player SNG...Yay for me.... I ended up sixth place My AK was not good enough against Pockets Johnnies but oh well...Psst Psst... can I tell you something... It was so fun making to that table...I was a wee bit nervous , don't ask me why... when I hit a set and bust someone I was doing the lotto 649 dance lol.....

Anyway I had a enjoyable morning of cards...got sucked out on the river twice but I have come to the conclusion to expect that from here on in.

I hope everyone had a great Valentines day... I have 2 shifts left and then I am off to California...woooooooooooooo baby!!!!!

I still have not started writing down my win/losses but have a good idea where I am at...

One question though... How do I do the still shot thing of the tables though... I see most people post a picture of their win or where they placed and I have tried to figure out how to do it... but am at a loss..

Hope someone can point me in the right direction..

Cheers

New Attitude = Bad Play

Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit. Conrad Hilton

Ok so in my previous post I stated I had a new game plan, well I tried it out today and boy was I in for a treat. I got hammered at the tables...ok my hammered means I lost 20-30 dollars...but man oh man...
I first started the $3 SNG and right off the bat I knew the way the table was going I was done...finished not in the money...So I put in for the 90 player SNG was doing fine until about 50th place when I was dealt PP 10's..I am in the small blind.. One limper so I raise 1/4 of my stack which my stack is 2700 BB calls and limper folds.. Flop comes 3 10 6 and I am thinking....nice....I put in a small bet and bb pushes all in..I am thinking ok he has Aces or Kings...he has me covered so what do I do...I call of course.
He turns over JJ ..turn comes and it's a rag...river comes and bingo a jack...how does that happen...lol GG Nice chatting good luck...ARGH...
so I then say why not and sit at the $5 SNG and and proceed to lose within the first 10 minutes... Do I have FISH flashing beside my name on their screens lol .. dealt KK a few limpers I raise to 640 and get 2 callers flop is low cards but 2 being hearts I bet one folds and the other reraises..I push and he calls with like A 5 with the 5 being a heart ...you know what's coming runner runner hearts .... I am out of luck again...I at this time had about a enough of SNG'S for the day. I then played 10/25 cent table where I went back and fourth until I lost about 6 dollars..

I am glad I had to get ready for work...LOL

I know these types of days happen and it is to be expected but sometimes I just think that some of these catches are impossible...lol I know I can say you don't see that happen live that often..but as Nathan pointed out we also play three times more hands than live..

Am I upset... Nah not really I will be back at the grind again...Should I have played some hands different...Looking back on it yes...I think my biggest problem is knowing when I am beat but still taking a stab at it..If I can get passed this I should be on my way..

Anyway those are my thoughts for today...

Thusday A New Attitude!

There are one hundred and ninety nine ways to get beat, but only one way to win; get there first.Willie Shoemaker

Well another long day at work and no poker. Well not yet anyway, I might squeeze in a SNG or two before I call it a night.

After speaking with my poker buddy Nathan I decided I need a whole new attitude or perspective on becoming a solid player. I sat down and we chatted and I admire how Nathan is a agressive player when it comes to no limit holdem. I wish I had that quality as I surely think it would serve me well.

So I am going to try a few things different and see how it goes. I had certain goals set out but after our discussion tonight they have changed somewhat..
I am going to stay at the 3 dollar limit and see if the changes I make help improve my goal.

I previously stated that I would never win a WSOP, I still honestly believe that at the moment...I will need a ton of practice and a little more agression before I can take on Gus and Kid poker lol.

Alright well that's it for now. I would appreciate if anybody has any feedback to give me a shout.

I am looking at purchasing poker tracker shortly any one have it already? give me the pros and cons...

also I am looking for a excel spreadsheet for SNG if anyone knows where I can purchase one.

Going on Holidays next week so poker won't be a option unless it is a live game in Los Angeles

No Poker Today

Well, not much to pass on today as I worked the nightshift last night went home slept for about 5 hrs and then headed back into work. I was feeling blah but when we had some down time at work I managed to get in a few chapters of Negraneau's Hold Em Wisdom.
I had to chuckle about the chapter of the top ten rookie mistakes.. I could check off three of them for sure and a few others were iffy.lol

I like the 5 times rule he writes about but I have tried this in the SNG and since I am playing at the $3 dollar game I really don't think it applies because it is like a all in frenzy and I would be put to the decision to push with a marginal hand.

Anyway, duty calls and I gotta fly..

To Play or not to Play

Good judgment comes from experience, and often experience comes from bad judgment.
Rita Mae brown

Well after a terrible monday at the tables I am really wondering what to do. As you may already know I am no pro when it comes to poker but I do enjoy the SNG at FT.

So Yesterday morning I sit down , the other half is at work and the kids are in school and The house is empty..woohoo shuffle up and deal without any interuptions lol.

So I connect to FT and hit the $3 SNG 9 player turbo.. so I am playing tight and am amazed of all the wild calls being made. I win the first one with ease and am up roughly 12 dollars..

Well I told myself that my goal daily was to either win 15 dollars or lose 15 either way I would stop... Well throw that out the window..At the end of the day and after about 20 SNG I am down roughly 50 dollars...

Now it is not because I played all that bad but I am now seeing that me attempting to play small ball poker at these $3 SNG just does not work...

I have to figure out a way how to adapt or play higher levels. Now again I am not sure if I am ready for them as I am still learning but I must be ok as I took 700 dollars off the 5 dollar SNG's at Titan in a span of a week.(for me that is good)

So the question I am trying to figure out is do I make the jump to the 10 dollar SNG and see where I stand.. I figure i would try about 6-10 of them one day and see if there truly is a difference.

I guess the point is that I am trying to establish a bankroll and I don't want to be throwing my money away if the players at the higher level will dominate me.

I have been looking at purchasing the sitNgo genius by Sean Moranse but I did some research and see that he has a few different websites selling the same program just under different websites owned by him... Anyone have any thoughts on this program.

Anyway just a few thoughts while I am busy at work lol...paperwork can always wait right!

If anyone wants to share any stories or tips or clips, fire me a email...I will put it on
Plus if anyone wants to mentor me in poker, feel free to make me your student..

Sunday's Thoughts

Well it's almost 11 am here and I am just hanging out with my youngest Ryan, We just finished making gingerbread cookies and as Ryan would say "They are delicious daddy"
The fresh smell of gingerbread in the house should mask the smell of getting beat in a 90 player SNG last night..

I was playing great with 21 players left it became a crazy scene blinds were getting up there with antes and people were pushing all in every hand for the most part. I am sitting in 8th place (in the money) when I am dealt QQ in the BB.

everyone except the button folds and he calls 1200 ...I think i have about 11000 in chips to his 6000 so I check... Flop comes 3 8 10 Rainbow...he thinks and pushes all in...so I am thinking trips...A 10? Would he just call preflop with the antes and blinds so big... why would he not push right off the bat... anyway I think he has like J 10 two overs at least...I decide to call...

He turns over A 9 os..and I am thinking oh yeah...that is until he sucked out a ace on the river...

Have you ever gotten that feeling that you know they will hit the river... It was weird ..Needless to say I was not amused....It urks me to know end when you play solid and you get some yahoo doing that and getting paid off for it... anyway few hands later I push with JJ against 22 and buddy hits a deuce on the flop..what do ya do..gone out GG Cya 20th place...

I sat back and wondered about how I played and what I could have done different.. I am playing these small SNG $3+30 to get my game down to a science so I can move up in limits..

What I came up with was that I might need to move up because for some of these guys 3 bucks is nothing and they play like a maniac..I don't know how you fix that ..sit tight and wait? I figured be aggressive when it is getting down to the wire but how much tighter can you play when you have QQ and mr all in with A9 beats ya..

I know it happens and the percentages are that most of the time you will win...I would like to try a higher limit to see if the craziness goes on there too...lol

Ok today I am going to play a few tourneys as it is just me and Ryan and he is going for a nap right away... so a few SNG'S and a tourney tonight maybe...
Hope ya all have a great relaxing Sunday and best of luck today!

Quote of the day!
Stop cheating!" the dealer told the card player.
"I'm not!" claimed the player.
"You must be," said the dealer. "That is not the hand that I dealt you."

Who I am

"You can stand tall without standing on someone. You can be a victor without having victims."
~Harriet Woods~

Well where to begin.
As I stated in my very first blog I would tell you a little about me.
Well I am from a large family from a small community in eastern Canada, Moved out west got married and started a family, Have 4 beautiful kids. I work in law enforcement(mostly with youths) and work all kinds of crazy shifts.

I love playing poker either live or online. I am a SNG maniac, lol not really a maniac per say but if you were to look me up on Full Tilt ( Millsy630) you would no doubt find me at a SNG.

I find the SNG suits my needs as due to working long shifts and having the kids all involved in sports I don't have the time for MTT'S.

I don't play big stakes(yet) but someday....yes someday I will get into one.lol

Getting back to me , I truly believe in Karma, and destiny. I am a fun loving kind of guy who tries to see the good in everyone instead of finding faults or weakness (except at the table ) .

OK , I guess that is it for now. I will be on FT tonight , most likely the $3 0r $6 SNG so feel free to stop by and say hi....

Thinking to myself...Is anyone really reading this? LOL...
Feel free to leave a comment or a question:)

The Journey Starts Today

Feb 06 2009

~Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared~
Eddie Rickenbacker (1890 - 1973)

Ok well here it goes, I never imagined myself writing a blog but I was inspired by a person that I had the privilege of reading her blogs and was totally blown away. (thanks rex55)

I am a Poker Novice, meaning do I play cards to get rich …No , Will I ever make it to the final table of the WSOP …ah …no. Will I make or lose a few dollars but meet people from all over the world. The answer to that is yes and I might even make some life long friendships along the way.

I started playing cards when Chris Moneymaker won the wsop. Yes I was one of many who jumped on the bandwagon and thought. If he can do it, why can’t I

So I signed up to almost every online site and began dumping money or should I say giving my money away. Pretty soon I realized there was more to the game then just sitting down.

I have bought the books and the DVDs and my game has improved. I do play online but my game can always improve.

I have played live and seem to have great success in the casinos. I usually played tourneys but have come to enjoy the 3/6 table.

As for online I have discovered that the cash game is not my gig. I enjoy and have fun at the turbo SNG’S. I don’t play for big cash (not yet) and have a steady game plan when I enter these.

Poker has a different definition for everyone; some have chosen to make it their profession, while others play for fun.

For me it is about making friends and sitting down and seeing who I can trap for all their chips lol.

Well I guess that’s it for now. My next blog I will let you know a little more about me and my passions in life.

Cheers
